Flora Yin Wong launches experimental book publisher and label project, Doyenne

Flora Yin Wong has announced her new project, Doyenne.

Shaping up as an independent experimental book publisher and a label, it'll focus on chronicling works from both established and emerging musicians, writers and artists through mediums of poetry, lyrics, essays, photography, illustrations, sound, metalwork and sculpture.

The first two releases from the concept have already been announced: '001', a split tape EP between founder Flora and artist Susu Laroche - which is limited to 120 copies - and a book, titled '002'.

The book features accompanying illustrations and poems from both artists on the tape, presented in a printed anthology alongside contributions from worldwide peers and collaborators, cataloguing bodies of work thematically drawing upon the tradition of 'Singing to Spirits'.

From personal notations and messages to loved ones, to identity exploration, photographic works and lyrics, '002' looks to the tradition's historical and indigenous global rituals for musicians to communicate with the afterlife, combined with the notion of songlines from Aboriginal animist belief on connection to the land.

Tape '001' is available on February 2, both digitally and via cassette, with anthology '002' due at the end of March. You can pre-order '001' here.
