DJ Nobu & Wata Igarashi team up for release with fabric

fabric Originals has released a split single release from two of Japan’s leading names in techno, DJ Nobu and Wata Igarashi, available on vinyl.

The collaboration sparked in Tokyo when Nobu invited Igarashi to play at the iconic Future Terror series before Igarashi swiftly released an EP on Nobu’s label ‘Bitta’ back in 2016. The project is a testament to the duo's shared vision and love of the genre.

While incredibly different in tone and style, the two contributors' deep understanding and love of techno are apparent in both tracks. Although both are slow burners, ‘Flares’ stays ominous and mysterious, whereas ‘泡 (Abuku)’ remains driving and forceful. Hearing these two tracks play after one another is reminiscent of these two titans' b2b-ing with their respective styles.

‘Flares’ immediately feels dangerous from the second it comes on. Strange beeps are met with booming bass until the one-minute mark, where synths take the lead and continuously evolve. There are no definite drops or significant shifts throughout, but that only adds to the hypnotic allure of the track. It’s a track that’s built on subtleties, and it pays off on every listen.

Wata Igarashi had this to say about the track: “Flares’ is really mental. I think it’s one of Nobu’s best tracks up to date, with lots of trippy movements of top...”

When asked about working with fabric, Wata Igarashi said, "I am honoured to have the chance to work with fabric, which I have always deeply respected and looked to from Japan. It is a chance for me to connect with a wider audience of music lovers."

Both producers are in-demand names this year, with festival bookings worldwide, including the coveted Dekmantel, Houghton, Dimensions and many more.
