Didi Han’s new EP will get you ‘In the Zone’ on the dancefloor
“My goal is to inspire movement and I hope these tracks have you dancing up a storm!”
Bristol’s Shall Not Fade imprint has released Didi Han’s dancefloor-driven five-tracker ‘In the Zone’ last week, and it’s bound to get you moving without abandon.
Teeming with 90s rave vibes, the EP conjures up some seriously funky soundscapes, with sirens, vintage textures, and a mix of eclectic percussions artfully weaving into the music.
In this EP, Didi Han aims to capture the deep, focused state expressed by the Korean term '무아지경' (pronounced mu-a-ji-gyeong) where people lose themselves in pure bliss and briefly forget about their own existence.
Speaking to Mixmag Asia, Didi describes the sound of the release as “Sparkly, bouncy, energetic, 90s and raw” while also adding “My goal is to inspire movement and I hope these tracks have you dancing up a storm!”.
Opener and hi-energy banger ‘Let’s Go’ is a perfect kickstart to the listening experience, prepping us for what’s to come with its Moog-y bass and grimy leads that entice you to start moving. Following is ‘Rave On Tonight’ which showcases spontaneous effects and layered drums, creating a chaotic soundscape that represents Didi’s love for the rave.
The nostalgic sounds and trance-like atmosphere of ‘Rim Shots On The Clouds’ come from Didi’s adept use of orchestral stabs and vocal effects, decorated with filtered leads, while ‘Sparkly and Bouncy Is For Me?’ is pretty self-explanatory.
