Cambodia welcomes community radio, focusing on local talents & key internationals
Starting tonight, expect radio broadcasts every two weeks from the idyllic Mekong River
Cambodia welcomes its own community radio, with a first broadcast tonight (August 1) at 7pm until 10pm.
Founded by Myro Bytz and Rowan Steele, the duo wanted to shine a light on local talents and help Cambodia’s often unsung music scene get onto a bigger, more global stage.
The opening broadcast features Kaza (Cambodia), Rowan Steele (UK/Cambodia), and international guest Biliguudei (Mongolia).
The second broadcast, set for August 15, will feature guests Maily (Cambodia) and Cyril Grouvel (France/Cambodia).
They place an emphasis on the grassroots and community-driven aspect of the radio, with the recording sessions being open to the public at their current location of Chew & Bash, an idyllic rooftop bar-slash-club overlooking the Mekong and Bassac rivers.
The founders urge local talents to get in touch with the chance to showcase their mixes.

He continues, “We found that there was not enough dialogue involving this beautiful country, and what it has to offer the world musically, so we wanted to create a pathway for discovery and inspiration for both local artists and those from around the world. We hope that as Cambodia and Southeast Asia grow, we can help pique the interest in this fascinating and soulful place and in the sonic surprises that sprout here."
