Apple gets in the spirit of Chinese New Year with a limited-edition AirPods Pro design
The charging case has been emblazoned with ox-themed artwork
Apple is releasing a limited-edition AirPods Pro design just in time for Chinese New Year. 2021 celebrates the Year of the Ox, and the charging case has been emblazoned with an Ox design. The Ox is the same design as its corresponding Animoji character, just tweaked every so slightly — a winking baby ox is popping out from a larger ox’s head with stars floating around.
Thee limited-edition AirPods Pro available to purchase in retail stores across Asia including China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and Malaysia, as well as online. Best of all, they won’t cost you anything extra, but there will be a strict two-units per-order limit, and be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Apple says they are only making 25,400 editions of these Chinese New Year AirPods Pro, with 11,480 reserved for retail stores while 13,920 will be sold online.
Customers can add custom text to their celebratory headphones, or even swap out the ox emoji for an entirely different icon.
Apple has also given an ox-themed makeover to its logo on some regional versions of its website.
Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year, begin on February 12 this year, marking the first day of the Year of the Ox, which follows the Year of the Rat. Being that the Year of the Ox only comes around once every 12 years, it might be the only times you can cop a pair of these this decade. Unless of course, Apple decides to realize a tiger-themed model in a year’s time.
