ALTER. Pavilion Live turns Yu Yuan into a festival-scale stage this Friday

On August 29, ALTER. returns with one of its most ambitious productions to date, transforming the Central Square of Yu Yuan into an electronic music and art experience.

Timed with the Qixi Festival, the event will feature a program that spans live bands, DJ sets, dance, and digital art.

The live performance segment is led by South Acid Mimi, a Yunnan-born trio that fuses rock, synth-driven electronics, and Chinese folk elements. They are joined by singer-songwriter Diner, whose recent debut album ‘Penta’ explores post-punk, dance and electronic textures grounded in guzheng training and global influences.

The evening also includes a performance by avant-garde dancer Qinran, known for blending martial arts, contemporary dance, and Taiji into physical storytelling.

The electronic music programming highlights several influential figures in the Chinese scene.

Yang Bing, a pioneer of the country’s underground scene and long-time advocate of club culture, will bring his refined mix of deep, minimal, and micro house. Cocoonics, recognised for her body-controlled live sets and cross-continental performances, adds an experimental edge to the line-up.

Rounding out the roster is Rain Ling, whose selections lean toward downtempo rhythms and global bass.

Visuals will come from WB Show, who will map Yu Yuan’s classical architecture with 3D projections, merging centuries-old design with real-time digital art.

Since 2018, ALTER. has organised over 150 events across China, bringing together more than 100,000 attendees through programs that integrate music, art, and technology in leading cultural venues.

The entire program on August 29 will be livestreamed by Shanghai-based community radio station, byyb.radio.
