Welcome to ‘Mengzy Selects’, a monthly video column which features five recently released tracks by producers and labels in Asia and across the Asian diaspora. Your host is Mengzy: a Hong Kong-based DJ and producer, PhD in musicology, music journalist, and co-founder of Feed the Dragon.

Seimei ‘Switch It Up’

TREKKIE TRAX’s Seimei joined an all-star line-up this month on Clasico Records for the second edition of their ‘Superclásico’ compilation. Hard groove, breaks, and techno meet at 140 BPM on ‘Switch It Up’ alongside tracks by artists like Bianca Oblivion, Closet Yi, and Farsight, to name a few.

Meek ‘Matadora’

We covered Meek’s debut ‘KTWN’ back in February, so we were really excited to see the Filipino artist return to Twelve Points Records with ‘Context!’. The four-track EP solidifies Meek as a rising talent to watch and features an extended version of ‘KTWN’. ‘Matadora’ exemplifies Meek’s disco breakbeat aesthetic—a combination that we honestly don’t hear often enough!

Island Futurism ‘Patri-Ark 海長老’ (B E N N Remix)

B E N N’s remix of ‘Patri-Ark 海長老’ by Taiwanese Afrobeat band Island Futurism is one of the best things we’ve heard all summer. Injecting dancehall and reggaeton-inspired grooves into the track (which is a tribute to the sea god Hái-Ang), the remix is a testament to Afro-Formosan musical innovation.

DJ co.kr & Deize Tigrona ‘Pika’ (WOST Remix)

DJ co.kr and Brazilian MC Deize Tigrona teamed up recently on ‘Pika’, a self-release via the Korean producer’s party brand GHETTO-RAY. Venezuelan producer WOST smashed it on his bass remix that takes the single into deeper territory.
