Mixmag Asia's bass purveyor Mengzy shares her musical discoveries from around the region
Welcome to ‘Mengzy Selects’, a monthly video column which features five recently released tracks by producers and labels in Asia and across the Asian diaspora. Your host is Mengzy: a Hong Kong-based DJ and producer, PhD in musicology, music journalist, and co-founder of Feed the Dragon.

Meek ‘KTWN’
Manila-based Twelve Points Records recently released its first anniversary compilation, featuring this showstopper by Meek. Epic in scale, ‘KTWN’ reworks a 1979 Filipino disco classic into a house-breaks fusion that selectors shouldn’t sleep on as festival season approaches.

Prettybwoy ‘Tokyo Ice Age’ (aya flip)
Inspired by Japan’s post-boom ‘Employment Ice Age’ and its ‘Lost Generation’ to which producer Prettybwoy belongs, is the ‘Tokyo Ice Age’ EP. Courtesy of aya, the title track enjoys a great UK leftfield club flip on the release via SVBKVLT.

MARU303 ‘Hamelns Acid’
Analogue wizard MARU303 crafted his new album ‘ACID TOOLZ’ using a Dirtywave M8 and Game Boy LSDJ as well as doing the artwork. ‘Hamelns Acid’ opens the impressive 12-tracker which spans acid house, breakcore, and jungle, and which is also available as a limited-edition cassette.

Ges-e & Nuphlo ‘Jaangle’
Purveyors of Eastern-influenced bass, Nasha Records dropped its first single of the year in the form of ‘Jaangle’. A collaboration between label co-founder Ges-e and Nuphlo, the single serves up jungle edits riding a killer symphonic sample.

Stevie Cox ‘My Lover Cindy’
Hong Kong’s Klasse Wrecks presents ‘My Lover Cindy’ by Stevie Cox this month. The lead track is crisp breakbeat techno that the Glasgow-based artist says was inspired by visits to queer parties.
