CTRL+Print Vol. 1 / February 2026
From club walls to phone screens, here’s your guided tour through the visuals & creatives designing the aesthetic of dance music culture in Asia & beyond
Welcome to ‘CTRL+Print’, a column curated and presented by Farhana aka Smileyworld, decoding the visual culture of electronic music across Asia and beyond.
Farhana is a digital artist and DJ who operates under the name Smileyworld, recognised for her signature 3D animated style of rave and party posters across Hong Kong, and is Mixmag Asia’s Visual Designer.
Replica.psd
Jace Liao aka Replica.psd is a self-taught multidisciplinary creative force in Asia’s underground music scene, and his flyers employ his recognizable “single-take” cinematography to achieve immersive storytelling effects.
This flyer for MDM Taipei has the artist’s classic story telling aspects and larger than life visuals. There’s no room for minimalism in the Chinese artist’s work, and if you love surreal artwork that’s loud and takes its time to unravel what exactly you’re looking at, you’ll love the rest of his stuff too.
Zoe
Zoe has been active in China’s underground electronic music club scene, constantly producing flashy and eye-catching visuals.
This is Zoe’s dystopian artwork for one of Expedition Records’ Bandcamp releases. Zoe is a master at turning hellish, underworldly themes into controlled chaos in her designs. Super saturated, expertly engineered and confidently cinematic, her flyers are dark and entertaining in the best way possible.
Akira Mimasu & Arthur Bray
Next, we’ve got this series of flyers designed by Hong Kong artist Akira Mimasu in collaboration with Arthur Bray, both of DJ collective and creative agency Yeti Out.
Their consistent visual language coupled with a few twists in every flyer keeps us looking forward to not just their gigs, but their designs as well. The bright and loud design elements translate perfectly into the bright and loud parties they throw in cities that never sleep.
