Zouk Singapore is bringing back the Phuture DJ Battle

Zouk might have moved to a shiny new location but the team have not forgotten their roots.

Back in 1997, the club launched the Phuture DJ Battle, a competition celebrating the often forgotten art of turntablism. In an effort to keep up with the spirit of hip-hop culture, Zouk will breathe life back into the competition this year in a series that will run for the next two months.

Budding turntablists and scratch masters can submit online via the Facebook page until May 15th, after which submissions will be screened by veteran turntablists Andrew Chow, KoFlow and DJ Rattle along with event host LeNerd.

Judges will chose five finalists based on originality, skills and track selection and announce them the following weekend on Zouk’s social channels.

Finally on June 14th, the finalists will compete in a head-to-head battle at Zouk where they will be “given a seven-minute window to dish out their best to impress. Intended to maximise exposure to crowds, each performance will be streamed live across the LED screens in Phuture."

Entries should be three minutes long and can be submitted here.
