Zouk in Singapore finds a new home, avoiding closure
We wish the iconic club another 20 years in its new home
It’s been a tense couple of years for Zouk Singapore, full of doubt and uncertainty as to its future, but at long last the club has found a new home and spared the legendary venue from a forced closure.
The super club is set to move to its new home at Block C at Clarke Quay next year. The club’s lease at its current location on Jiak Kim Street, where it’s been since 1991, expires in December of this year as the area has turned into a residential neighborhood over the years and its residents aren’t happy with the presence of a club.
The 24-year-old club aims to open between June and September of 2016 and the space it’s moving to is roughly a massive 30,000 square feet.
Last year saw a wave of support generated for the club, with artists like Laidback Luke and Hardwell taking to YouTube to voice their support for the iconic club and a powerful Save Zouk campaign that garnered over 40,000 signatures. Even the city’s tourism bureau voiced its support.
Expect this year to be full of parties and commemorative bashes to honor the existing and fabled locale, as well as its silver jubilee in April 2016 when it will celebrate 25 years.
Last year, Mixmag Asia caught up with the clubs owner Lincoln Cheng and talked about the last two decades. Read the story and see pictures of the mega club from when it was just a decrepit old warehouse here.
