Zohran Mamdani campaigns in nightlife spaces across Brooklyn ahead of election day
After visiting six venues, including queer party Papi Juice, he went on to win the mayor’s race by a landslide victory
Zohran Mamdani’s final weekend before winning the New York mayoral election centred on a high-energy bar and club circuit.
His Saturday night (November 1) included six stops where he visited venues across Brooklyn, including Gabriela, Caribbean Social Club, Damballa, Mood Ring, and the LGBTQ+ party Papi Juice at Elsewhere.
Launched in 2013 by DJ Oscar Nunez, DJ Adam Rhodes, and illustrator Mohammed Fayaz, the Papi Juice event series was created as an intentional space for queer and trans people of colour.
Mamdani then went on to watch the Buffalo Bills game at an Astoria bar with Gov. Kathy Hochul.
After the night out, Mamdani continued building support the next day, campaigning early Sunday morning (November 2), greeting voters at the New York City Marathon in Greenpoint.
Mamdani went on to win the election, receiving at least 1.03 million votes—more than all other candidates combined.
During his drop-in at the Papi Juice party, he addressed the crowd: “Are we ready to make history? Let’s go out and do it. Thank you, my friends.”
He has now quite literally made history, becoming New York’s first Muslim mayor and its youngest in more than 100 years.
