Zoey Jones’ ‘We Had A Love’ is reminiscent of Bali’s blissful vibe
The dreamy deep house cut was written & recorded on the Island of Gods, compelling the artist to surrender to her smooth sound
‘We Had A Love’ is Zoey Jones’ latest single which came out last month via her own Love Struck Records. The dreamy Summer song is a lush mix of dance-pop, deep house, and her signature ethereal vocals.
The globetrotting artist recently moved back to the UK after 14 years of living all over Asia, bringing back the track that was written and recorded in Bali where Jones stayed during two and a half years of the pandemic.
Sound-wise, as any established artist, Jones embraces her evolution and growth, explaining to Mixmag Asia that she’s “definitely surrendering to the fact that my vibe is ‘smooth’; I’m just evolving and building from this. I think my tracks are getting stronger when they have a sense of being more commercial obviously.”

Her favourite track to date, ‘We Had A Love’ is that idyllic mix of blissful beats, uplifting chord progressions and a steady kick that’ll keep heads bopping.
With skitters of Disclosure-esque synthplay and vocals that echo a message of learning to let go of past loves, Jones mentions how she’s “always been inspired and in love with electronic music that oozes soul, storytelling, mystery, seduction and is a bit groovy.”

Finalising the track with a producer in London, Jones shares how she felt it was time to explore another level of craft by co-producing 'We Had A Love' after years of producing on her own.
"We gathered together a ton of ideas and reference tracks, discussed the vibe of the song and story and created 'We Had A Love'. I love the result of the song, it's very “my style” and what I've been after as a release for a while."
That being said, she's also open to experimenting with different sounds and versions; "coming next will be remixes by some great DJs," she teases.
