Classic 90s game Mortal Kombat 1 has released its newest gameplay trailer, showcasing the work of San Francisco-based DJ of Chinese heritage, Zhu, for its soundtrack titled ‘Fatal (Mortal Kombat 1)’.

The trailer presents new features and visual upgrades, plus the return of iconic characters along with new ones against the background of Zhu’s dark, synth-heavy track.

‘Fatal (Mortal Kombat 1)’ infuses the game’s “fight” and “finish him” vocal samples, easily recognisable by avid gamers. Its catchy melody and heavy bass flow nicely as the two characters battle it out as though the track was depicting two synths going against one another in a musical combat in itself.

This is not the first time that Mortal Kombat has collaborated with dance music artists on their soundtrack. In 2011, for ‘Mortal Kombat (Songs Inspired by the Warriors)’, TOKiMONSTA released Mileena's Theme and Skrillex released Reptile's Theme.

Although the track may not quite seem like a typical Zhu production, you’re able to hear his musical flair within the syncopated trap beats of the composition. Listen to it below.

A few weeks ago, the producer also unveiled his clothing line ‘NIGHTDAY’, which is an ode to rave wear and club culture. The elevated collection brings dance music to fashion and perfectly embodies all things Zhu — mysterious and sleek.

“I’m a pretty visual person. I’m very inspired by rave culture; this is something that I’ve been a part of, I’m embedded in,” Zhu mentions to Billboard.

He recently previewed this collection privately in LA in March and at the end of May, he hosted a public preview. There’s still no news on when the collection will be released but it is said to have higher luxury-like price tags attached to the all-black line.
