What are Yeti Out getting up to again?

As you remember from our profile of them back in September 2020, Yeti Out is part Abominable Snowman, part music-promoter, part label, part DJ and part design team. With crew in London, Shanghai and Hong Kong, they’ve thrown parties for Virgil Abloh and Louis Vuitton, booked artist and club concepts like The Blessed Madonna and Rainbow Disco Club, dropped shoe designs with Vans and Nike, collaborated with Coach and have been putting out music across boldly different genres via their label Silk Road Sounds. Their most recent venture comes in 8-bit.

The collective’s now doing a two-month pop-up in the heart of Central, the CBD of Hong Kong. The pop-ups named BRICK CITY WORLD®, and is a collaboration between Yeti Out and Retro.HK that explores music and technology in retro game culture, with game culture preservation and electronic waste prevention at its core.

With technology growing at an exponential rate, the modern becomes the archaic within months. Retro.HK is a non-profit and is one of Hong Kong’s largest vintage game collectors that was established to preserve the history of video games. They’ve been raising awareness and educating the public on the ongoing legacy of video game culture with their gaming expo events.

In BRICK CITY WORLD®, you’ll find racks of T-shirts, hoodies, rugs, pillows, Lego brick sets, iPhone cases and other memorabilia from their capsule collection, with a lot of their designs inspired by the 8-bit retro gaming universe as well as everyday public designs in Hong Kong.

We’ve teamed up with Yeti Out to give you a chance to win some of the things listed above. How? Just follow @yetiout & @mixmagasia on Instagram, like this post and tag two friends in the comments, and we'll announce the winners next Thursday on March 4, 2021. Make sure you have a mailing address in Southeast Asia. There will only be three lucky winners… in other words, be good this week and maybe the stars will align for you. Enter the contest here.

Yeti Out’s also showcasing a vinyl collection that includes the Street Fighter, Mario Kart and King of Fighter soundtracks, as well as an installation highlighting the relationship between grime music and video games.

You can visit the BRICK CITY WORLD® pop-up at the basement of 15 Queens Road, Central at AV BELOWGROUND until 21 March 2021.
