Weird Genius increase the tempo on fierce 'Why Do You Lie To Me' remix

One of Asian dance music's greatest success stories of 2020, Weird Genius are ending their breakout year with something of a flurry. Hot on the heels of their 'All In' gaming anthem for 'League of Legends – Wild Drift', and the bumper 'Lathi' remix package – which came equipped with interpretations from RayRay, R3HAB and more – the boys are back again with yet more fire. Here they deliver a jaw-dropping revision of 'Why Do You Lie To Me' by Topic & A7S featuring Lil Baby. The track was included in an extensive remix package back in October but was given a full single release earlier this month. Upon listening, it's easy to hear why Virgin Records felt the excellent remix warranted further attention.

The original version is a highly palatable tropically-flavoured pop-house-hybrid, and the remix package featured the work of NØ SIGNE, twocolors, KC Lights, Besomorph, and Keanu Silva. In something of a departure from their signature sound, this effort sees the Geniuses switch up the tempo and toughen up the beat to create an out and out club weapon, and could be their most dance-floor focused work to date. The track clocks in at a rapid 130bpm, with its four-to-the-floor beats and heavy toms upping the energy levels considerably, causing sheer havoc in the process. The stripped-back rhythm section let the drums do the work, as vocal chops, synth stabs and effects add to the groove. The track breaks down to allow the full vocal lead to take to the fore while huge pads and a classic main room build increase the tension before the fierce future house beat charges back in with devastating effect.
