Theus Mago to drop debut album ‘MUN/SEA’ via DGTL

Mexican producer Theus Mago has released his long-awaited debut album ‘MUN/SEA’, out June 6 via Amsterdam’s DGTL imprint.

The 12-track release marks a shift in tone for the artist—real name Mateo González—moving away from his darker roots toward a more colourful, emotionally layered sound (with artwork to match).

The album is “a disguised homage” to his son: “It has its ups and downs, its bright moments and dark moments. Just like parenthood,” the artist explains.

That duality runs deep throughout ‘MUN/SEA’. Opener ‘Do Androids Dream of Dinosaurs?’ sets a playful tone with bright synths and wide-eyed energy, while ‘The F-Train’, a collaboration with Moderna, plunges into darker electro territory with grinding bass and monotone spoken word.

Casa Furiosa’ with Kubebe brings tribal drums and analogue grit, built for peak-time pressure, and ‘Bongo Boys’ flips a Daft Punk vocal sample into a warped, techy (yet somewhat nostalgic) groove.

Mateo's three-year-old son also has his vocals featured on the track ‘Kuni Kuni’.

With features from Tonga Conga, Mijo, Thomass Jackson, and more, ‘MUN/SEA’ is Mago’s most personal—and most playlist-friendly—release yet.
