Downtempo songstress Chanka drops visuals for her latest unearthly single
Trippy dream pop has become the signature of the singer with the frail voice
Hong Kong singer-songwriter Chanka released her latest single, ‘Everyday I Die a Little Bit Inside,’ on YouTube on November 21. This downtempo ditty about the regression of human emotions in everyday life is accentuated by choreographer and dancer Tung Chiu flinging and flailing herself around in an impassioned modern dance on a sunset-drenched beach.
The singer-songwriter started making bleak electronic music three years ago. In that time, Chanka has become well known for her deceptively frail voice. It seems soft and fragile at first, but after a few listens, her voice is deeply moving and layered. Chanka’s songs are ever-evolving and with each new release, she hopes to surprise her fans by breaking down the barriers of musical genres.
‘Everyday I Die a Little Bit Inside’ is chapter two in her three-part project to explore the emotions of humanity. Chapter one is ‘Reminisce_End Game Version,’ an emo cyber pop song that follows self-learning AIs around their 3D world as they figure out they have emotions, which slowly causes them to fall apart.
Chanka has been tight-lipped about chapter three. No one knows what it will be about or when it will appear, but one thing is for sure–it will be a surprise to her fans.
