The first trailer released for Bob Marley biopic, Bob Marley: One Love

The first trailer for the upcoming Bob Marley biopic, Bob Marley: One Love, has just been released.

The film, produced by Paramount Pictures, is set for release in January 2024 and has been directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green — best known for his 2021 biopic starring Will Smith as the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams in King Richard.

The film stars Kingsley Ben-Adir (Peaky Blinders) as the lead actor with Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel) as Rita Marley whom the musician married in 1966.

The film also features Jesse Cilio as Marley’s father Norval, James Nortan as Island Records founder Chris Blackwell and the likes of Michael Gandolfini, Nadine Marshall and Anthony Welsh.

Produced by the reggae legend’s son Ziggy Marley, his daughter Cedella and widow Rita, the film follows Marley in the period after a 1976 assassination attempt up to the point of his tragic demise in 1981.

Ziggy introduced a teaser at CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier this year honouring his late father.

The trailer showcases the “Three Little Birds” singer’s rise to fame and the unstable conditions that led to the culmination of his One Love Peace concert in 1978, which was held in the time of the violent political crisis in Jamaica. The film will also revisit Marley’s formative years that shaped his musical journey in the build up to his untimely death at the age of 36.
