Steffen Sonnenschein maps his Vietnam journey in ‘9119’
A genre-blurring LP capturing six years of life abroad through breaks, house & deep atmospheres

Saigon-based producer Steffen Sonnenschein unveils his latest LP, ‘9119’—a deeply personal and genre-defying body of work that encapsulates his six-year journey living in Vietnam.
The album’s title marks a pivotal moment in Sonnenschein’s life: the date he left Germany to carve out a new chapter in Southeast Asia.
Across 12 tracks, ‘9119’ distills the raw emotion, cultural immersion, and sonic exploration that have defined his time in Vietnam, capturing everything from the frenetic energy of Ho Chi Minh City to the tranquil shores of Phu Quoc.
Stylistically, the album weaves together breaks, trip-hop, house, and experimental textures, reflecting the highs and lows of expat life—the euphoria of discovery, the intensity of adaptation, and the introspective moments in between. Each track is meticulously crafted, showcasing a rich depth of sound while maintaining a cohesive narrative.
The tracklist is as diverse as it is purposeful. A melancholic undercurrent runs through ‘Flicker of Xenon’, while ‘The Manufacture Effect’ bursts with euphoric energy. ‘Tribicep’ leans into UKG-inspired breakbeats, and ‘Home Office’ channels a groove-heavy yet sinister energy.

A standout moment arrives with ‘On a Secret Weekend’—a deep, brooding cut infused with ethereal vocal chops and shimmering xylophone melodies. It distills the essence of Sonnenschein’s sound into a single, hypnotic gem.
Another highlight, ‘Home Office’, remains as compelling as ever, with an accompanying music video that’s not to be missed.
