Spotify’s AI DJ is “now taking music requests”

Spotify has upgraded its AI DJ feature, allowing Premium users in over 60 markets to request music using voice commands.

The streaming platform has announced that “DJ is now taking music requests”, offering AI-powered suggestions backed by insights from their global editorial experts. Users can discover new tracks, revisit old favourites, and more.

Previously a passive tool that served curated playlists with commentary, the AI DJ now responds in real time to spoken prompts related to genre, mood, artist, or activity.

To activate the feature, users can search “DJ” in the Spotify app, press play, and hold the DJ button in the bottom-right corner to speak their request; anything from “Play me something with a Y2K vibe” to “Surprise me with some indie tracks I’ve never heard before.”

A quick tap still skips to the next vibe without speaking.

The AI combines user data with editorial curation and responds through the familiar voice of Spotify’s Xavier “X” Jernigan.

While the feature remains in beta and does not support podcast or audiobook requests, it marks a step in Spotify’s push toward adaptive, voice-led interaction.
