A taste of South Africa: watch Major League DJz throw an amapiano celebration
An hour-long stream brought to you by Mixmag and Nando's showcasing the Mix It Up series
We’ve gone from the rave in the corner of our office to transforming a Nando's restaurant into an amapiano party.
Nando’s is keeping things spicy this summer with its Mix It Up project, seeing four UK artists join forces with South African amapiano producers on a brand new, extra-extra hot 'Mix It Up' EP. Those selected to learn more about the genre were, Bru-C, BERWYN, M1llionz and Miraa May. Each artist has a spot on the menu with the proceeds from their creations to go towards non-profit organisation Bridges For Music. The EP also showcases beats made by amapiano producers MDU aka TRP, BL Zero, Tumza and TO Starquality as well as, vocalists Aymos and Basetsana.
As for the finale of the project, afrobeats DJ Neptizzle, co-founder of Bossy LDN Izzy Bossy and the iconic Major League DJz, all performed at Nando's Greenwich - Cutty Sark to celebrate the sound of amapiano.
After slurping on South African wine and munching on PERi-PERi fries, the party went ablaze into a showcase of not only top-quality DJs cranking up tune after tune, but also Major League DJz debuting tracks made out of the Mix It Up series. Even in the midst of the sweltering 39 degree heat, amapiano giants Major League DJz got the crowd energised with a racuous hour-long set. From Bru-C jumping on the mic to Miraa May cheering amongst the crowd, this party was one to remember.
Watch Major League DJz’ hour-long set and keep an ear out for the debuts of the Mix It Up fresh tracks.
