Soulwax to host first-ever "rave" at London's Abbey Road Studios

Soulwax are hosting the "first-ever rave" at London's iconic Abbey Road Studios this month.

In an announcement shared on February 5, the recording studio confirmed that the Belgian duo will headline the event, entitled Abbey Road After Hours, on Saturday, February 21. They'll perform a DJ set under their alter ego 2manydjs, alongside special guests.

300 guests will be admitted into the event, which will see Abbey Road's Studio One - the setting of the world's first global satellite broadcast, and the studio used to record Shirley Bassey's 'Goldfinger' and The Beatles 'All You Need Is Love' - transformed into a rowdy dancefloor from 8:PM - 1:AM.

Tickets will be available for free via a public ballot, with those who'd like to attend asked to call the "Soulwax rave hotline" on 07886072699 to be in with a chance of attending. For those who don't get their hands on tickets, the entire event will be broadcast on Abbey Road Studios' YouTube channel on February 5.

“It’s hard to say whether we have a perverse or healthy attraction to crazy ideas, that’s for other people to decide, really," Soulwax’s David and Stephen Dewaele say.

"So to be approached with a crazy idea is one thing, but to be approached with a crazy idea by the most iconic recording studio in music history is even more attractive. We embrace and accept this challenge and also sincerely hope this won’t be the last rave at Abbey Road,” they continue.

“Abbey Road After Hours is part of our mission to devise unexpected moments and creative collisions in our house," says Abbey Road’s Director of Marketing and Creative, Mark Robertson.

"I’ve talked about hosting a rave for years, so it’s a genuine thrill for Soulwax to accept the invitation to curate the first night – which will include new music that they’ll record here the day before," he continues.

"Studio One has been home to countless era-defining firsts - from Elgar to John Williams - and opening the room to bold new forms of creativity feels both true to our heritage and audacious.”
