sooyeon returns with hypnotic, low-frequency distorted floor-filler

London-based Korean artist sooyeon (FKA Oh Annie Oh) follows up her acclaimed debut EP with the latest single, ‘in the club, we’re all disassociating’, out now via Cross Country.

The track is a hypnotic, low-frequency-driven club cut co-produced with Adam Curtain, featuring gut-punching distortion and high-energy bass.

It's a fusion of UK bass, techno, and leftfield sounds that showcase the dynamic energy we've come to expect from sooyeon.

Balancing the hypnotic with the undeniably powerful bass, the track serves as a statement of intent after her highly acclaimed debut 'Block N Delete' last year. She’s returning just as strong, if not stronger, than her breakout.

The track aims to encapsulate the feeling of total surrender on a dancefloor—where the stresses of the outside world dissolve into sound.

Speaking on the track, sooyeon told Mixmag Asia, “This track was inspired by the feeling of losing yourself on a dancefloor. Letting go of life’s anxieties is easier when you're enveloped in sound, and that was the aim for the record. The track hypnotizes at first, and then the bass spills out, eventually becoming all-encompassing and immersing the listener so they can melt in the low frequencies.”

Her presence in the scene extends beyond the decks. As an advocate against anti-Asian hate, sooyeon also uses her platform through her ‘Don’t Call Me Exotic’ podcast to foster conversations around identity, representation, and culture.
