Singapore’s communal space keeps the arts alive in ‘Approachable’ collab

Recently-opened bar and resto Offtrack Singapore will carry out its inaugural art showcase titled ‘Approachable’ by Indonesian collective, Krack! Studio. Collaborating with local curatorial body MAMA MAGNET, it will launch off with a listening party on Saturday, April 30 2022 at 4pm featuring DJ Dean Chew to set the mood. Visitors will also be able to sip on a specially curated cocktail available throughout the showcase that runs until May 28 2022.

Responding to sociopolitical developments and cultural debates through their print-based works, Krack! teams up with Singapore’s own MAMA MAGNET whose expertise in curatorial consultancy strategising and multimedia art programming helps pave the way for emerging talents. Take a peek into their archive of artistic alliances where you’ll find no topic is off the table when it comes to presenting one’s perspective — for them, accessibility is key.

For this event, Krack! pushes a theme of everyday encounters — “The artworks are self-aware manuals for navigating life and feature the universal language of memes and logic,” mentions the press release. The exhibition itself is seen as a nod towards bringing together cultures from around the region through art in social spaces.

Limited edition A2-sized silkscreen prints from the Yogyakarta-based printmaking studio will start selling from S$450. By naked eye, expect to encounter artwork that is visually innovative and — with a closer look — will allow you to comprehend their critique towards happenings in Asia-Pacific.

Offtrack itself specialises in Pan-Asian food and an assortment of cult classic cocktails. Pampering your ears, the venue’s carefully-designed soundsystem produces a congenial listening experience in its intimate space — something you’d expect from the brainchild of Singaporean music collectives Darker Than Wax and Ice Cream Sundays. Undoubtedly an appropriate setting for those craving to immerse in a creative atmosphere.

‘Approachable’ takes place from April 30 – May 28 2022 at Offtrack, 34 North Canal Road, Singapore 059290. Tickets for the launch party available here.
