Seoul Community Radio teams up with pirate radio station Rinse FM
The collab is a solid gateway to the West for Korean and Asian artists
Korean artists have been on the rise in what could almost be described as a very welcomed disruptor in the global dance music scene — the likes of Closet Yi, Yaeji, Park Hye Jin and Peggy Gou have been shining beacons of original frequencies stemming from Asia.
One of the key talent and creative product incubators behind the Korean house and techno music scene is Seoul Community Radio (SCR), who recently announced their new transcontinental collaboration with the London-based pirate radio station Rinse FM. The joint venture is a perfect two-way communication whereby Asian and Korea-based artists are introduced to an audience on a highly credited global platform, whilst Rinse will broadcast once a month on the SCR network and put forward their diverse array of artists to ears in Asia.
In terms of programming, SCR will broadcast their talent on Rinse FM on the first Saturday of every month, and Rinse will in return showcase their diverse roster on the SCR network on the second Tuesday of every month, in both audio and video live streaming format. Rinse France will also be joining the collaboration to really reach the far depths of their esteemed music network.
Ju-hwan You aka DJ Bowlcut, Head of Content for Seoul Community Radio says in a press release, “our favourite thing about this residency exchange is that it further scales up our aim to get more deserved exposure to calibre Korean and Asian artists outside our own region. That it’s with an O.G. pioneer of underground music like Rinse with an established audience makes it even more exciting.” While speaking to Mixmag Asia, he further adds, "we are very excited to have this moment to share our vision of music stream in both sides of the world."
The Rinse FM x Seoul Community Radio collaboration kicks off tomorrow Saturday 18 July from 12.00-14.00 GMT (20.00-22.00 KST). Check out the promo video below.
