A poet, rapper, and activist from Philadelphia, Moor Mother blends experimental music, free jazz, and electronic sounds to break down the walls of categorisation and to expose through music the systemic oppression and colonial history that permeates our world while envisioning a future of liberation with sharp social consciousness.
Their raw, powerful vocals, atmospheric noise, and dynamic instrumentation merge to create an intensely immersive listening experience, evident throughout their extensive discography and collaborations with artists like Eartheater, The Bug, and Show Me the Body.
They recently released a collaborative album with the band SUMAC, and are now preparing for the opening of ‘Time Zone Protocols’ on September 4 at the Leeum Museum of Art — a project by Black Quantum Futurism (BQF), the Philadelphia-based artist collective founded by Camae Ayewa (aka Moor Mother) and Rasheedah Phillips.
