SaturdaySelects celebrates 7 years of music, events & community in Kuala Lumpur

Starting off as a platform on SoundCloud, Kuala Lumpur’s SaturdaySelects has evolved into a household name for anything related to underground electronic music. From countless parties and radio shows to a slew of releases and more, the brand has become a vessel for sonic creativity and expression in the city.

Founder Roshan Menon mentions to Mixmag Asia that “After seven years, we are going to continue promoting live music shows, but also focus on the next chapter of the company which is becoming more involved in artist curation, DJ bookings and event conceptualisations.”

This new focus on their long-term plans is aimed at further cementing SaturdaySelects as the go-to brand when it comes to tapping into underground music and the city’s rising urban youth who constantly seek new experiences.

Celebrating seven years of contributing to Kuala Lumpur scene, the collective is hosting three parties spread across three weekends, with each event highlighting existing concept nights. Take a look at the schedule below.

- 06 May: Groove Theory @ Pisco Kuala Lumpur (10.00pm-late)
- 20 May: Spicy Riddim Club @ XO Kuala Lumpur (9.00pm-late)
- 28 May: Come Vibe With Us @ Wet Deck, W Kuala Lumpur (3pm-12am)

Catering to the wide range of listeners and preferences, the events will feature some of SaturdaySelects’ go-to beat purveyors they’ve collaborated with over the years and who share a common love for good quality, music-based experiences.

Groove Theory is based on a monthly event focusing on different shades of house music and will invite over Amsterdam’s Retromigration to headline the show alongside Coco and Roshan.

Spicy Riddim Club is a series that’s been happening since January 2019 with a short hiatus during the pandemic. The line-up comprises Ashley Black, Naufal, Irama, Nadia, Aida and DJ Vin who are known to champion the sounds of afrobeats, amapiano and hip hop in the city.

The last event, Come Vibe With Us, is SaturdaySelects’ yearly celebration that focuses on keeping things open format with a diverse range of sounds. This year, it comes in the form of a Sunday pool party that starts at 3 pm. Providing tunes throughout the affair will be Coco, LZZY, Naufal, Random K.I.D, Irama and Roshan with a special guest headliner, the Hancur Crew (Victor G, Axel Groove, Shazan, Azran and Alam).
