SABIWA, Queimada & Nathan L bring an unsettling beauty on 'Sons of _'

Taiwanese avant-garde sound artist SABIWA has teamed up with Italian sonic experimenters Queimada and Nathan L to deliver their latest collaborative LP, ‘Sons of _’, released on UK label Phantom Limb.

Known for her dismantling sounds into ghostly atmospheres, SABIWA and her collaborators bring a unique approach to this project, weaving field recordings, processed orchestration, and fragments of Taiwanese folklore into a rich, mind-bending experience.

The result is both unsettling and fascinating—a world of sounds that feel simultaneously ancient and futuristic, beautiful and haunting, familiar yet impossible to fully decipher.

Each track explores the boundaries, resulting in a deeply introspective listen.

“We wanted to achieve a unique sonic experience that gently pulls listeners into a calm, introspective realm of sound, visuals, and hidden stories,” the trio shared.

One standout moment arrives on ‘Nothing blue - 無憂無慮,’ a track (much like the project at large) that feels like it’s drifted in from another dimension. SABIWA’s haunting vocalisations layer with static, crackling textures, and strings to create an experience both unsettling and strangely serene.

The combination of distorted soundscapes and ghostly harmonies makes the entire album a one-of-a-kind listen, balanced delicately between beauty and darkness.

The trio have created their own singular world on this project, and one that we keep finding ourselves sucked into.

To single out specific tracks would be a disservice to the LP's fluid narrative—this is a record meant to be experienced from beginning to end, with no interruptions. Block out 30 minutes and let ‘Sons of _’ wash over you.
