Robert Pattinson: “I had my headphones over the bat ears, making electronic music”

Robert Pattinson has shared details about the “ambient electronic music” he made while on set of the 2022 film The Batman.

The London-born actor spoke to GQ last week about making “tons and tons” of music while filming, explaining that he would produce tracks at every break opportunity.

“I was in a tent the whole time, basically, whenever I was on a break on The Batman, and I’ve got my headphones over the bat ears and I’m making electronic music on MPC with my vape, done up like Batman,” he said.

When asked what genre of music he was making at the time, he explains: “I was kind of going all over the place. I’m always doing lots of stuff. I made tons and tons of ambient electronic music”.

Pattinson added that he used his headphones with the Batman cowl on, saying: “It was so difficult to get the cowl off, but I got the headphones over.”

“There was a period where I thought I was going to release that,” he said about the music he made. “You have to decide who you want to be in this life, you can’t be everything.”

Earlier in the interview, Pattinson also referenced his love for maximalist electronic outfit 100 Gecs, but said he was 'late' to the party. "You know who I really love? I was extremely late to this: 100 Gecs," he said. "I wish I’d been part of that when it was all taking place. I love their music."

Pattinson previously spoke to GQ about making electronic music on the film’s set in a 2022 interview, with NTS Radio replying to news on X: “Batman come on NTS you coward."

The 2022 DC film also stuck to the dance music theme, with a scene recorded in Surrey Quays’ now-shuttered nightclub Printworks. The club was dubbed The Iceberg Lounge, home to one of the film’s most memorable action sequences.
