Refuge Worldwide and Zaatari Radio are teaming up to launch recording studio in Amman
Delivering workshops for young people in marginalised communities
Refuge Worldwide and Zaatari Radio have announced that they will be building a recording studio in Amman, Jordan in May.
The recording studio will host four weeks of workshops for young people in marginalised communities to learn about radio production skills.
The project is called ‘Aswat Al Raseef’ which translates to ‘sounds of the sidewalk’ and will see contributions from artists such as Nicolás Jaar, Nour, and ODDZ.
Young people will be taught to produce radio shows that explore migration history in Amman, having their work broadcasted throughout Jordan and on Refuge Worldwide.
Founder of Palestinian festival Exist, figures from MENA and representatives from Refuge Worldwide, Radio Zaatari and Arabic music magazine Ma3azef will also be supporting the project with some talks also available to the public.
Via a statement posted on Instagram, Zaatari Radio posted: “Over four weeks we will be working with musicians, artists and industry experts from the Middle East and North Africa delivering a top-quality curriculum of radio production and broadcasting.
“Each participant will produce a radio show exploring Amman as a city shaped by migration and a coming together of communities around the world.
“These workshops will unfold whilst creating a studio space that will be made available to use and develop the skills of the participants further after the project has finished through a continued residency at Refuge Worldwide.”
On Friday, a fundraiser in London for Aswat Al Raseef raised just shy of £700 to help support the delivery or workshops and public lectures this May in Amman.
