Que Sakamoto selects his secret dance floor weapons
Japan's celebrated DJ & producer is US-bound this month
Que Sakamoto has garnered a solid reputation in the world of experimental disco in recent years, thanks as much to releases on To Rack & Ruin's edit series as it is to his extensive touring schedule.
Along the way, he’s also weaved his
magic on radio stations including Red Light in Amsterdam and Living
Room in Zurich, and back home in Tokyo, he runs his ‘Huit Etoiles’
night at Omote-Sando super club, Vent. His parties have featured
highlights from the world of nu-disco, including Crazy P, Sean Johnston (Aflos), Moscoman, Khidja, Zombies in Miami, and Simple Symmetry.
Primed to fly the flag for the Asian underground on a busy United States tour after a
series of events in his native Tokyo, we caught up with him before he
takes-off to quiz him about some of the secret weapons he's excited
to play out on the road.
First up, he chose Credit 00
'Islamatronica' on Mechatronica records. “This one is an old
school, spacey and unique electro-funk beat that makes you feel
excited,” said Que.
Next on his list is Pete Namlook & Geir Jenssen 'The Fire Of Ork' on Biophon Records. “It's a dark, up-building track where the vocals and the whole song are cool and fit well on the dance floor”.
Completing his selection is Alessandro Parisi '1831 NRG' on 9300 Records. Que told us, "This Italo disco track has a dynamic and fantastic world feeling. It makes you feel pretty high".
