Premiere: ‘New Shifts’ are on the horizon for Rafiki

As Mumbai-based label Krunk Kulture continues to flourish in its fourth year of operations, label head Sohail Arora reveals new depths as Rafiki with his ‘New Shifts’ EP, due August 9.

‘New Shifts’ is the sophomore release for the label head under his Rafiki moniker, which focuses on techno, house, breaks, and acid productions; a previous alias, EZ Riser, was more bass-centric.

The EP demonstrates a mastery of different house and techno styles while showcasing a breadth of moods and atmospheres across its six tracks, produced during a recent transformative period in the artist’s personal life.

‘Walk the Talk’, which drops on August 2, follows the July 26 lead single release of EP’s title track. A heavily melodic offering with glitchy arps and a roaring filtered bassline, ‘Walk the Talk’ recalls the fiery character of many mid to late noughties and early 2010s French house productions. Alongside the 4/4 belter, breaks-based ‘Switch Up’ and introspective tribal opener ‘Losing You’ also stand out.

Rafiki will release ‘New Shifts’ next Wednesday, August 9, via Krunk Kulture; pre-order here.

For now, take a listen to 'Walk The Talk' below.
