Peggy Gou among a select crop of DJs picked to provide mixes for Apple music's NYE series
The Korean selector's blend includes tracks from some of Asia's esoteric creators
Streaming service Apple Music has announced a tasty set of New Year's Eve-inspired mixes from an elite crop of the dance underground's finest, among them Korean it-girl Peggy Gou. Other highlights from the list of 21 premium electronic artists are Disclosure, Madeon, Carl Cox, Honey Dijon, Lane 8, Dixon and recently renamed The Blessed Madonna.
Berlin-based Gou serves up a “forward-looking house and techno set”, including a pair of excellent tracks from two of Asia's prized underground purveyors. Hong Kong stalwart Mr Ho's fine rework of Korean counterpart Mogwaa's 'Bali-E', makes the cut, as does Ciel's cultured remix of Off The Meds, 'Wena'. Also included in the mix are tracks from Dorisberg, Bruce Ivery, and Overmono. Peggy Gou has maintained a high profile throughout 2020 thanks to a busy social media presence, as well as endorsements and collaborations with the likes of Hyundai and Louis Vitton. Her Gudu label has also dropped well-received EP's from legendary rhythm master, Maurice Fulton, and UK-based JRMS.
While most of us are looking forward to seeing the back of 2020, celebrations this year are likely to be muted across the globe, so Apple Music's moves to help at-home ravers find a soundtrack to their countdown is greatly appreciated. “Apple Music invited 21 of the world’s finest producers to compile exclusive DJ mixes that considered the year behind and the year ahead,” reads a statement from the platform. “Some are nostalgic and reflective, others are forward-thinking and optimistic, but all represent the fierce eclecticism that shaped the year in electronic music.”
