Nicki Minaj responds to White House Press Secretary rumours

Nicki Minaj has responded to rumours that she is taking on the role of White House Press Secretary.
The US-Trinidadian rapper has reportedly been "floated" as a replacement for US President Donald Trump's recently-axed press secretary Katie Zacharia, who announced her departure earlier this month (October 16) after just five days in the role.
Following Minaj's appearance at the White House just days later, social media users jokingly claimed that the 'Superbass' rapper was in the running to become the next White House Press Secretary.

A vocal supporter of Donald Trump, Minaj labelled herself the US President's "number one fan" during a joint-appearance earlier this year. The musician, who claimed to have arrived in the US illegally from Trinidad as a child, was granted US citizenship with an expedited visa, nicknamed "Trump's gold card", usually reserved for donations of $1 million to the US treasury.
On Sunday (October 25), Minaj made another appearance alongside Trump at a Republican mid-term campaign rally in Michigan, where the President made lewd remarks about Minaj's "beautiful ass", before crediting her with being a supporter "from day one".
"So many people were maybe giving up a little bit, maybe a little bit hopeless," said Minaj, who had shared clips of herself on board Air Force One - the US President's official aircraft - via TikTok ahead of the appearance. "And since he's come back, he's changed the energy of our country and given us a future to look forward to."

Minaj added that she was "honoured to be working with this president," because he "represents resilience."
Appearing to respond to the rumours, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung also shared a clip of a mock interview with Minaj for the White House Press Secretary role, along with the caption: "Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!"
Following a question about “fake news polls”, Minaj - emulating a response from a press secretary - says: “Let’s ask Hilary Clinton. We don’t pay attention to those polls; they are there to deter our voters from going out and casting their vote. Conservatives, we are winning, and we need to not let anything stand in our way of bringing it home to the bank.”
