NAINA’s single condenses a decade of DJing into debut breaks banger
The Hooversound co-founder’s first release 'I’d Rather Be Here (Than Anywhere With You)' is setting the bar very high
NAINA drops her long-awaited debut single, 'I’d Rather Be Here (Than Anywhere With You)', released on Hooversound, the ever-adventurous label she co-founded with Sherelle.
This release offers a first taste of her own production style before the full release of her debut EP ‘Survival’, set to drop on February 7 next year.
Having spent over a decade as a mainstay on UK airwaves and DJ booths, NAINA has now ventured into production—and the payoff is worth the wait.
'I’d Rather Be Here' is a “tears in the club” anthem built on ethereal vocals, deep and rolling breaks, and a bassline designed to keep bodies moving and a first foray into production, it’s remarkably polished.
We’ve also had a listen to the full EP and it’s equally as strong. Mark February 7 in your calendars.
Drawing inspiration from icons like The Prodigy and FKA Twigs, the EP merges elements of techno, jungle, and footwork with undeniable energy. While NAINA is known for her jungle mixes, ‘Survival’ showcases a fresh side to her artistry, and we’re excited to see what's in store next.

Speaking on her Asian roots, she told Mixmag Asia, “I'm South Asian, Hindu Punjabi. I was born here in the UK, but both my parents were born in Africa—my mum in Uganda and my dad in Kenya. They've always supported my love and passion for music, but I've always struggled with the lack of South Asian representation in the music industry. That's why it's so exciting to see movements like Daytimers and Dialled.”

She continues, “I also launched Tala Radio a few years ago, my show on Apple Music (formerly Beats 1), where I highlight South Asian creatives making an impact. We've featured artists like SBTRKT, Riz Ahmed, Nitin Sawhney, Priya Ragu, SUCHI, Nabihah Iqbal, and more. There's so much creativity in the scene, and I love being able to celebrate and share their music with listeners around the world.”
