Enigmatic producer Naeleck shows his soft side on doe-eyed new release
The semi-mortal EDM player surprises fans with a super mellow ballad
Heavy EDM producer Naeleck has just announced a new release, with this latest effort proving to be quite a departure from his trademark high energy sound. The mysterious Marvel-esque anti-hero (or possibly villain, we're not too sure) has been active as a producer for almost exactly a decade. Rumoured to reside in various places, including Tokyo as well as a cave in southern Taiwan, there's a sense that the “half time alive, half time dead, full-time noise maker” enjoys his enigmatic status.
Although his usual sound skates between genres including bass, dubstep, electro house, fidget and more, in general we can expect his music to be full force, in your face, and overflowing with tension. Not so this time out. We're not at all sure what happened to change his mood, but on 'All My Heroes' we see him collaborate with singer Sarah Rebecca for a downtempo ballad which wouldn't sound out of place as the credits roll at the end of a Manga anime. The single comes in vocal and instrumental versions, and though vastly different in tone, it shares the high-level production of his regular output.
Naeleck's career began behind the turntables, and really took off following his residency on Block FM, and was further cemented by his shows on Digitally Imported, and his Dancing Dead podcast collaboration with Earmilk. He runs his own Den Haku record label and has released on numerous compilations and labels, including TCY and Recovery House. The Den Haku 'Gaming Music 2020' was released earlier this year including material from Naeleck himself alongside affiliated names, including Duke and Jones, Carbon Kevlar, and the imaginatively named Fukkk Offf.
We're interested to see whether this is a lasting softening, or a short-lived relaxation. We strongly suspect the latter to be the case, but let's see what comes next...
