SHERELLE and fynn studio team up for exhibition focused on Black and LGBTQIA+ dance music

SHERELLE has teamed up with independent London art curator fynn studio to curate a free, ten-day immersive exhibition exploring Black and LGBTQIA+ community in the rave, titled move/003.

The exhibition, powered by Dazed, Spotify and AIAIAI, will take over the Dazed space, 180 The Strand, starting March 1.

Its predecessor, move/002 , was a week-long project between fynn studio and SHERELLE's BEAUTIFUL project at Open House Hackney and explored similar themes.

Celebrating contributions of entrepreneurism, culture and art from Black and Queer communities to nightlife, according to Dazed, “move/003 draws visitors on a sensory journey through the physical and psychological landscape of a night out."

The exhibition, documenting the relationship between music, art and community through the experiences of those within the community — such as the team behind East London's largest Black-owned music venue Colour Factory, Parisian photographer Teddy Dally, UK funky pioneer Roska and Ugandan activist and artist DeLovie Kwagala.

First Black curator at the Saatchi Gallery and founder of fynn studio, Kobi Prempeh said: “move/003 is speaking to and representing audiences that are not heard or seen enough within major art venues, and it’s been an honour to work on creating something different.”

Working with SHERELLE’s label BEAUTIFUL, the exhibition will invite former Mixmag cover star Nia Archives, Loraine James, Kareem Ali, Roska, Karen Nyame KG, TAAHLIAH, Otik to perform DJ sets, with free tickets available on Resident Advisor.

Conversations between SHERELLE and Nia Archives, Loraine James and Roska recorded as part of the exhibition will be re-edited for Spotify within the GLOW hub.

An Equity Program for LGBTQIA+ Creators, GLOW is Spotify’s global music program “celebrating and amplifying LGBTQIA+ artists.”

SHERELLE set up BEAUTIFUL in 2021 to create and curate opportunities for Black and Queer emerging artists. Alongside workshops and other initiatives, in 2023 BEAUTIFUL was able to offer free studio sessions in North London in partnership with AIAIAI.
