M.I.A. responds after being thrown off Kid Cudi tour for "undocumented migrants" rant in Texas

M.I.A. has been dropped from Kid Cudi’s months-long Rebel Ragers Tour after she made "offensive remarks" on stage during the tour's opening dates.

Videos circulating online show the British singer and rapper telling crowds that she was unable to perform her track ‘Illygal’, which is about an ‘undocumented’ migrant, for fear that "some of you could be in the audience". She received boos in response.

At the same event in Dallas, Texas, M.I.A. told crowds: "I've been cancelled for many reasons. I never thought I would be cancelled for being a Brown Republican voter."

Kid Cudi took to Instagram on May 4 to let fans know that M.I.A. has been pulled from subsequent support dates on his tour, which is set to run until late June.

He said that he asked his management to "send a notice to her team" before the tour commenced saying that he "didn’t want anything offensive at my shows", and was "assured things were understood".

"After the last couple shows, I’ve been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants," he wrote. "This, to me, is very disappointing and I won’t have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upsets my fanbase."

After being removed from the tour, M.I.A. claimed on X on May 4 that she wrote ‘Illygal’ “before you thought immigrant rights were cool”, adding that she’d faced "these battles by myself without the help of millions of fans".

"I don’t need this virtue signal era to all of a sudden erase an entire life I’ve led," she said. "Jesus was an immigrant and a rebel. I have no apology for the judgemental, the wicked and the ignorant."

She also claimed that she cannot vote in the US despite her claims of being a Republican voter, writing: "Do not gaslight my words. That is the work of Satan."
