M.I.A. drops OHMNI 2.0 collection at first weekend of Coachella

On the first weekend of Coachella, M.I.A.'s technology-driven fashion brand, OHMNI, made its comeback.

After two years of silence since the release of their first collection in June 2024, the British singer/rapper is back with a new collection which arrived on the back of a special surprise performance alongside Major Lazer.

Diplo and M.I.A. were both wearing a full protection silver poncho and a shielded skirt from OHMNI 2.0’s latest collection, sharing the stage once again in front of the approximately 125,000 crowd at the festival.

Lisa of Blackpink fame was also spotted backstage wearing the Full Shield Armour Jacket (MI7 Special Edition) from the collection.

The fashion brand is said to have been developed by using fabrics that protect from exposure of electromagnetic fields (EMFs), commonly emitted by everyday wireless devices such as smartphones, earphones and laptops.

By incorporating Faraday technology in their garments, OHMNI aims to block radio frequency tracking used in mass surveillance systems, making it difficult for signals to be detected and “gets you off the grid”.

Although the research is inconclusive, some studies suggest that EMFs may increase risk of cancer and brain tumours, especially with prolonged exposure to microwave and/or radiofrequency radiation.

Alongside the collection, M.I.A. also released her seventh studio album, ‘M.I.7’, which dropped on released on April 17.

The seven-track album released through her own OHMNIMUSIC label was reportedly written across different locations around the world; Ethiopia, Egypt, India, the United Kingdom, Greece, Australia, and the United States.
