Merzbow’s new album ‘Sedonis’ lands on Signal Noise this month
Built from modular synths & homemade instruments, the release dropping June 27 channels monstrous energy

Noise icon Merzbow (real name Masami Akita) has announced ‘Sedonis’, his new full-length album due out June 27 via Signal Noise.
Founded in 2021 by Gregory Bae and Kikù Hibino, Signal Noise is a Chicago-based imprint for experimental music, noise, and video art.
Layered, relentless, and deeply atmospheric, it reaffirms his position at the forefront of noise and avant-garde electronic music.
Lead track ‘Sedonis A’ is already out, offering a jarring yet entrancing entry point into the album’s meticulously constructed chaos.
Built using Akita’s signature blend of computer processing, modular synths, and a custom-built koto (a Japanese plucked half-tube zither instrument), ‘Sedonis’ spirals from searing percussion and bowed-string textures to moments of eerie, spectral calm.

The three-part title suite (‘Sedonis A’, ‘Sedonis B’, and ‘Sedonis C’) then dissolves into the vast 16-minute closer ‘Monolith 4’.

The album's title came to Akita in the aftermath of recording the album. “In terms of imagery, I was thinking of something similar to Barunga, the balloon monster from Ultra Q. A cloud-like form floating in the sky or outer space, with tendrils or tentacles — that kind of presence,” he explains.
‘Sedonis ’ also marks a significant moment in Merzbow’s ongoing collaboration with Signal Noise, following his headline set at the label’s inaugural showcase in Tokyo last year.
