Audio Asia: Soul-infused club flex on 'Let It Go' from MAQman & Joseph Junior
The duo reunite for a musically-rich dancefloor excursion
8/10
Title: Let It Go (MAQman Club Mix)
Artist: MAQman & Joseph Junior
Label: Makin Moves
Release Date: July 22
MAQman and Joseph Junior continue their bountiful studio collaborations on their latest club-focused missive, 'Let It Go'.
The pair have been in prolific form of late, serving a string of well-formed releases over the last few years that have been garnering heat among the soulful and spiritual house contingent. The new release arrives in two vocal versions – the 'MAQman & Jezrael Painful Mix' and 'MAQman Club Mix' – with each presented in vocal and instrumental form. Representing Southeast Asia in fine style, Swiss-born Vietnamese artist Minh Anh Quach has been deeply embedded in the house underground for well over two decades, operating as a DJ, producer, and musician under his MAQman moniker since the late '90s. Serial collaborator Joseph 'Junior' Okitikpi, is once again drafted to provide the vocals, with the London-based singer-songwriter's distinctive vocal flow brilliantly embellishing MAQman's refined instrumentation.
'Let It Go (MAQman Club Mix) is perhaps the most kinetically charged, with driving rhythms, staccato synths and fizzing chords powering Joseph Junior's textured vocal before the free-flowing sax solo elegantly lifts the mood. As we've come to expect from this outfit, the music is gloriously life-affirming and embodied with feel-good intention.
