Maggie Tra’s 'She’s A Street Fighter' is a pulsating anthem of resilience & migration

Maggie Tra’s new single, ‘She’s A Street Fighter’ is a vibrant blend of cultures and sounds that embodies the spirit of resilience and migration, setting the stage for her upcoming album out next month titled ‘Dancing Untethered’.

Having just dropped today (Wednesday, June 5) via her own SYS Sister Sounds imprint, the opening of the track features field recordings that add a layer of authenticity and connection to Tra’s heritage.

"The vocals that I used are from a field recording of a street vendor I recorded whilst I was in Saigon, Vietnam. For me, it gives it a nostalgic feeling," says the Australian-born artist with Vietnamese and Cambodian roots.

This nostalgic element is juxtaposed with a stomping kick that represents the arduous journey of her parents' migration. "The stomping kick represents the 'walk' or 'journey' my parents endured," she explains to Mixmag Asia, reflecting on the strength and hope that permeates the track.
