KOR in Taipei picks up illustrious German design award
It's also the first bar in Asia to be awarded the prestigious accolade
KOR in Taipei has barely been open 6 months and it's already picked up the prestigious iF Design Award earlier this month. We’re not at all surprised, we went to the opening and the bar is both impressive and stunning. It's also home to the world’s first chrome finished VOID Acoustics sound system which well complements the club's black, white and gold interior.
The category in which the club won is 'Interior Architecture: Hotels / Spas / Restaurants / Bars' and while the award has been by restaurants before, no other bar in Asia has previously won.
KOR's design comes from E-Tai Design Agency, the same company that co-designed OMNI and won it several awards as well.
The iF Design Award is a highly celebrated award by the iF International Forum Design GmbH. It was founded in Hannover in 1954 and has been held annually ever since. It recognizes excellence in design and receives over 2,000 submissions every year from world-renowned designers and entrepreneurs.
Read our full writeup on the club here and see the gallery above for pictures of the space. And if you really want to get a feel for the it, see the video below in which KOR's exceptionally talented bartenders turn the bar into their own personal parkour playground.
It's also worth mentioning that KOR is an EDM-free club specializing in hip-hop, funk and soul instead. However EDM can be found at neighboring OMNI, the only nightclub in Asia to also win the award.
KOR is the brainchild of the LOOP and you know who they are because of clubs like Luxy and OMNI, years of events like Halloween Massive and during its almost double decade run they’ve hosted artists like deadmau5, Skrillex, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Armin Van Buuren, Tiësto, Steve Aoki, Calvin Harris, Zedd and the list goes on and on.
