Klasse Wrecks marks 50th release with latest EP from Luca Lozano

Klasse Wrecks marks its 50th release with a bang, as co-head honcho Luca Lozano gifts us ‘Number One Difficult Man’, an EP embodying the label's eclectic ethos and signature sound.

Over the years, Klasse Wrecks has released a plethora of genres, from rave and breaks to deep house, downtempo, and acid, to name a few. This latest release perfectly encapsulates the label's diverse palette and identity.

Even the artwork pays homage to the many releases coming from the label over the years, courtesy of their in-house designer PLANETLUKE.COM. And for those collectors out there, it's available on a sleek limited edition golden wax.

The project delivers what fans have come to expect from Luca Lozano: distinctive samples, thunderous breaks, resonant 303s, all wrapped in Luca’s contemporary twist on the classic 90s sound.

For us, the pick of the bunch is the opener. It storms in setting the tone of the EP in style slapping you with that 303. As he says, the track “barges through the door...knocks over a few drinks before blossoming into a breakdown that propels the 303 deep into space and back again”. We couldn’t have put it better ourselves; that breakdown is something special.

Mixmag Asia had a word with Luca about the project, where he said: “WRECKS050 came about without much preplanning, in fact, we were unaware of the big milestone looming until it was time to fill out the order form for the pressing. I’m happy that’s the way it panned out, it fits our ethos of not taking ourselves too seriously.”

He continues, “The fact that the honour lay with me was a happy coincidence, at the time I had been working on a group of tracks that fit together well and it was a no-brainer. I see the EP as a quiet monument, a sign that we’ve come this far and we have far to go.”
