Juno Download announces closure after two decades

Digital music marketplace Juno Download has announced its closure after 20 years.

In a statement published on its website, Juno Download said: "It's been our privilege to share some of the most incredible music from the most amazing artists, but we're sorry to say, that the time has come to say goodbye."

"There's still plenty of great music available from Traxsource and Beatport but for now, this is Juno Download signing off," the statement continues. According to MusicTech, Juno Records, Juno's vinyl-focused store, will not be affected by the closure.

First launched in 2006, Juno Download became a focal point for dance music fans hunting down the latest releases, providing users with an independently-owned alternative to iTunes alongside its reputation for offering "the cheapest" price to consumers.

Juno Download confirmed that users will still be able to access their previous orders through their account.

In a statement given to Resident Advisor, Juno Download's COO Lucas Garcia said: "It's obviously a sad day, but as streaming has become the dominant model of digital music consumption, artists and labels are now more connected than ever with their fans via social media and 'direct-to-fan' services like Bandcamp, so the role of the music webstore is becoming less significant."
