Jonny Rock & Generalisation rework A Mountain of One’s tracks into dubby, transcendent groovers

A Mountain of One once again prove that the duo’s sonic mastery is one that is undeniable via their latest remix drop, released by Brighton-based Vicious Charm Recordings.

Having laid impeccable groundwork via their forward-thinking 2022 album ‘Stars Planets Dust Me’, their tracks not only stand out on their own but also allow other artists to showcase their signature sound, taking them to further euphoric heights and rhythmic depths.

After Ricardo Villalobos’ cult-favourite rework project, this time underground edit maestro Jonny Rock and Vicious Charm Recordings boss Damian Harris aka Generalisation take the reins.

The original four-minute-twenty-second ‘Make My Love Grow’ from their 2022 album is a slow-burner comprising melancholic vocals and synths that create a sound of cosmic vastness. The dubby, layered sounds mixed with chill, Balearic sensibilities make it perfect for more introspective moments. Jonny Rock’s Code-R remix keeps and lets the dubby-ness shine, only this time on the percussion front. Coupled with an alluring reverb that adds intensity to each beat, the rework lures listeners into its poignant depths.

The original ‘Surrender’ is a funky, feel-good jam that oozes sensuality with its lush, dynamic instrumentation and uplifting lyrics. Generalisation then bestows upon us a stripped-down version, allowing each of the instruments to shine one by one, slowing down the track just a bit while maintaining its mischievously groovy feel. Around the halfway mark, the track tones down the flurry of sounds for a short moment, and picks up with ethereal synths that gently escort you towards the very end.

Overall, the two interpretations are impeccable crossovers that would make perfect gateway tracks for those eager to expand their sonic repertoire.
