Japanese band Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas drops new album ‘Hypertoughness’
Trance-core band have carved out their own psychedelic space
Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas, a trance-core band from Japan had a rough 2018. Their bassist Kei passed away and they took a year-long break to recalibrate and the silver lining is the recording of their new album ‘Hypertoughness’, released last month on Warner Music Japan.
In addition to the chiptune style they used before, the band has recently been influenced by everything from Happy hardcore, Eurodance and other hyper tempo electronic styles. With Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas placing more emphasis on electronic sounds this time out, they have built the songs accordingly – fast and furious, but still maintaining a pop-dance sound that seems to never go out of style in Japan.

Their songs have also been featured in many famous animations and games. the track ‘Just Awake’ was featured as the closing song in ‘Hunter × Hunter’, and ‘Rave-up Tonight’ was the theme song of ‘Gundam Extreme VS. Maxi Boost’, to name a few.
