Jamie xx enlists Erykah Badu on new single, ‘F.U.’
The track lands on the deluxe edition of his recent album, ‘In Waves’
Jamie xx has enlisted Erykah Badu on a brand new single, ‘F.U.’, landing on the deluxe edition of his recent album ‘In Waves’.
‘F.U.’ dropped via Young on January 29, some months after the release of his highly-anticipated second album, which picked up international acclaim in 2024.
The new track features ad-libbed vocals from the US singer-songwriter over a high-energy, synth-led house beat. Check it out below.
Badu’s vocals were captured during an afterparty at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound festival in 2019, when a technical malfunction forced the music to stop. Badu then took to the mic, ad-libbing vocals without a backing track in front of crowds.

“A few years ago, I was playing at a Primavera afterparty in Barcelona with Erykah Badu,” Jamie xx said on Instagram. “The decks stopped working and she just freestyled this incredible acapella performance, fully improvised, just her and the mic.”
“I managed to record a bit of that, and it became the basis for the track. We connected about it when I was finishing the album and it became a track I really love,” he said. “I’m so happy that she is a part of ‘In Waves’. Thank you Erykah!”

‘In Waves’ arrived in September 2024, nine years on from his debut album ‘In Colour’. The latest track marks the fifth addition to the deluxe album, which landed digitally for the first time on January 29.
‘In Waves (Deluxe Edition)’ also includes a second new track, ‘Do Something’, as well as previously released singles ‘It's So Good’, ‘LET'S DO IT AGAIN’, and ‘KILL DEM’.
