Inside the atmospheric night at Singapore’s Capitol Theatre with Ben Böhmer
Captured in intimate detail, the event showcased music performed on d&b audiotechnik’s Soundscape system for an immersive listening experience
On January 22, Capitol Theatre held a different kind of stillness. ArtBeyond’s HALO series returned with Ben Böhmer live in Singapore, shaping the historic venue into an intimate, carefully-tuned listening space, staged with d&b audiotechnik’s spatialised speaker system encircling the room.
Singapore’s own James Selva opened the experience, easing the audience into the night. Pianist Churen Li followed, bringing a cinematic weight rarely heard in an electronic setting. Allen Hulsey then stepped in with guitar-driven electronica threaded with eastern tones and deep grooves.
When Li and Hulsey shared the stage, piano, live guitar, vocals and electronics intertwined in a slow, deliberate build that drew the room closer.
By the time Ben Böhmer appeared, the atmosphere was focused and expectant. Working with d&b audiotechnik’s spatialised speaker system, the theatre became fully immersive.
The start of his performance was calm and subdued, with lush chords and emotive piano lines unfolding slowly, each element placed with clarity across the 360º field. As the set progressed, melodies swelled and rhythms tightened, as the final stretch of tracks opened into full-bodied energy.
The images in this gallery reflect that restraint, focusing on expression, on light falling across faces, on the quiet concentration between artist, instrument and audience.
